🆕 Fallout over fallout: A black stain on Industry's Environmental Record?

Councillor Jackson wishes to thank those that have reached out to his Ward 6 Office regarding the black soot that has been appearing on the East Mountain, for which Councillor Jackson is angry over such an unacceptable situation. Accordingly, Councillor Jackson has been in continuous communication with the City of Hamilton's Public Health Department who has advised the following for Ward 6 residents:

"Fugitive dust and air emissions are governed by Ontario Regulation 419/05 – Local Air Quality under the Environmental Protection Action, R.S.O 1990. The enforcement of this regulation is through the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP). The MECP has local district offices across Ontario, including one office in Hamilton. This district office includes Environmental Officers who respond to air quality concerns across Hamilton, including sampling of dust fallout. The MECP is aware of ongoing dust fallout issues in Hamilton and have been responding to these concerns.

To contact Hamilton’s MECP local district office citizens can:

  1. Call Hamilton District Office intake phone line during regular business hours at (905) 521-7650; and/or
  2. Call the 24/7 Public Pollution Report Hotline at 1 (866) 663-8477; and/or
  3. Email [email protected] and attach photos of the dust in your backyard.

If requested, Councillor Jacksonur office can forward your concern to the MECP directly, and/or MPP Monica Ciriello’s office. Please confirm your permission to share your contact information/email address shared over email with the MECP staff, and/or with the MPP’s office staff. Alternatively, you can contact the Member of Provincial Parliament's (MPP’s) office directly at 905-388-1515 or [email protected].
