
Increasing Safety for Pedestrians, Cyclists, and Motorists on the East Mountain
Based on consultation with the East Mountain community, the following are Ward 6 infrastructure upgrades for which my office strongly advocated the Transportation division. Graciously funded by the Transportation division, these projects are designed to increase traffic safety for pedestrians and cyclists on the East Mountain while also ensuring that motorists are operating as responsibly and as carefully as possible with a smooth use of our roadways and at our intersections.
Location: Stone Church Road East and Upper Gage Avenue
Type of Work: Signal Modernization
Description: Modernization of existing traffic signal infrastructure including pole bases, underground infrastructure, curb radius reduction, AODA, streetlighting, and pavement marking.
Status: Construction completed in 2024
Location: Mountain Brow Boulevard & Arbour Road
Type of Work: Intersection Pedestrian Signal (IPS)
Description: Installation of IPS including signal infrastructure, underground conduit, concrete works, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) infrastructure, streetlighting, and pavement markings.
Status: Construction completed in 2024
Location: Rymal Road East & Pritchard Road
Type of Work: Traffic Signal Modification
Description: Conversion of temporary signals to permanent; includes full signal infrastructure, AODA, curb work, streetlighting, and optional median extension to restrict left turn movements.
Status: Construction completed in 2024
Location: Mohawk Road East & Upper Gage Avenue
Type of Work: Traffic Signal Modification
Description: Signal modernization with Accessible Pedestrian Pushbuttons (APS), AODA upgrades in all quadrants, curb work, ladder crosswalks, countdown signals, grading, pavement markings, and streetlighting.
Status: Procurement underway with targeted completion of Q4 2025 (pending awarding of contract and weather).

Type of Work: Intersection Pedestrian Signal (IPS)
Description: Installation of IPS including signal infrastructure, underground conduit, concrete works, AODA infrastructure, streetlighting, and pavement markings.
Status: Design completed with procurement to follow and construction timing to be confirmed.
Location: Stone Church Road East
Type of Work: Multi-Use Path (MUP)
Description: Installation of a 3.0 m MUP on Stone Church Road East between Anchor Road/Arbour Road and Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway including required bicycle crossing treatments at intersections, a full signal at the Stone Church Road East & Anchor Road/Arbour Road intersection, addition of a painted buffer to the existing on-street bike lanes, and new transit concrete pad and sidewalk connection on the north side of Stone Church Road East at Pritchard Road.
Status: Under construction
Location: Upper Ottawa Street
Type of Work: Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Camera
Description: ASE camera was recently installed at Upper Ottawa Street to assist with speeding concerns along this stretch.
Status: In active operation.
