🆕 Put Waste In The Right Place

From Monday, March 2, 2026 to Monday, March 16, 2026 the City of Hamilton is mailing the 2026/2027 Waste Guide along with 12 pink trash tags to residents. Since blue trash tags expire March 27, 2026, residents can begin using their pink trash tags starting Monday, March 30, 2026.

The 2026/2027 Waste Guide is very informative and has important waste information, including:

  • Sorting information for what goes where
  • Holiday collection calendar
  • A reminder of changes to the residential Blue Box Program

For instance, new items that are now permitted in the blue box across Ontario include:

• black and dark coloured plastic

• styrofoam cups, meat trays, and take-out containers

• aerosol containers (empty)

• deodorant containers, toothpaste, and hand cream tubes

• new plastics (i.e. bubble wrap, pouches, and snack wrappers such as chip bags, granola bar wrappers, cookie bags, and cereal bags)

As in previous years, residents can request an additional 14 trash tags to be picked up or mailed to them for use between April 2026 and March 2027. This can be accomplished by visiting a Municipal Service Centre or City Hall, e-mailing [email protected], or calling (905) 546-CITY(2489).
