Rain Tax

The previous term of Council embarked upon a Rain Tax (i.e. Stormwater Fee) to target massive impermeable surfaces such as the parking lots found at malls and large shopping centres.However, during this term of Council, the new Rain Tax has taken on epic proportions and has morphed into charging everyday homeowners with a tax for any paved on a residential property with potential impacts to the rural and agricultural communities. Also, it was supposed to be “cost neutral” but as of this writing, it is still in a state of flux and the proposed amount of the new tax has gone from approximately $170 per property to approximately $270 per property. Regardless, I am on record as being opposed to this evolved Rain Tax.
