Rescinding of Encampment Protocol

Finally, finally, finally – after 18 months of needless stress and anxiety for many Ward 6 neighbourhoods and families abutting their favourite open spaces and recreational amenities at their neighbourhood parks, the flawed and failed City of Hamilton Encampment Protocol was rescinded on January 22, 2025 by a 14-2 Council vote. In addition to being the seconder to Councillor Spadafora’s motion, I was one of the “Original Six” in August of 2023 that voted against the Encampment Protocol to begin with as I always believed that parks should never have been a solution to homelessness. Our East Mountain Community overwhelmingly agreed with my opinion in a multitude of feedback that I and my Ward 6 Office received.
