๐ Town Haul - Collaboratively Pulling for Broughton East Park
On Tuesday, May 19, residents of the Broughton East neighbourhood gathered for a Town Hall meeting to celebrate the successful conclusion of an eleven-and-a-half year battle to preserve their green space at 16 Broughton Avenue for generations to come.
Councillor Jackson who hosted the Town Hall congratulated the 14-member Broughton East Park Citizensโ Committee who were responsible for garnering a petition with over 400 signatures in 2014 to save Broughton East Park as well as thanked the Francophone Community (MonAvenir School Board and Viamonde School Board), and Developer Paul Silvestri for collaboratively ensuring the three-way party negotiation led to a โwin/win/winโ outcome.
Also in attendnace was Wes Kindree, Manager of Landscape Architectural Services, who provided a presentation detailing the process and next steps to redevelop Broughton East Park, including timelines โ and in the interim โ how we can bring the existing amenities back to an operational state.
Of particular notes, Councillor Jackson called for the establishment of a Broughton East Park Redevelopment Citizensโ Committee (BEPRCC), which will work in collaboration with City staff and the Ward 6 office to ensure community members can provide input and make decisions on the features they would like to see included in their new City-owned park.
Councillor Jackson's goal for working with the BEPRCC and community will hopefully produce an incredible outcome similar to the most recent park redevelopments in Ward 6 at Hampton Park (Summer 2025) and Eleanor Park (Summer 2022).
A total of $500,000 has already been allocated toward the conceptual designs and staff resources required to move this valued project forward. The funding is comprised of $250,000 from the Cityโs Parks Capital Budget, and $250,000 from Councillor Jackson's Ward 6 Area Rating Reserve Fund.
