🆕 Uli's Stairs -- Stepping Up for Uli's Memory

Supporter's of Ulrich Nitka -- the Ward 6 resident affectionately known as "Uli" who hand-made a 305-step stone staircase from 2004 to 2007 connecting the East Mountain to the lower city (Mountain Brow Boulevard to Greenhill Avenue) -- gathered to dedicate a commemorative bench with a plaque honouring his memory and handy work. The $2,200 cost of bench and plaque at the intersection of Mountain Brow Boulevard and Fennell Avenue East were split between volunteers and Uli's estate, with the remaining $1,100 coming from Councillor Tom Jackson Ward 6 reserve via a motion he successfully brought to Council.

On hand for the bench and plaque dedication were Cathy Nitka (Uli's niece), Marcus Nitka (Great Nephew).

Councillor Jackson wishes to thank Daniela Buehner and Nina Clements who voluntarily promoted and assisted in organizing the commemorative bench dedication ceremony.
